Death Valley National Park, between Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Temperatures reach over 130F/55C in summer. Lowest elevation in North America at 282 ft / 85 m below sea level. (Interesting that this point is only 76 miles / 123 km east of Mount Whitney, the highest point in the contiguous United States (14,505 feet / 4,421 m). (for comparison: the Dead Sea is 1,385ft / 422m below sea level )
