Reviews
This section brings you professional camera reviews specially written to meet the needs of the users of our portal. Emphasis is placed on compact cameras, which are suitable for use in the project, but semiprofessional and professional cameras will not be exceptions.
Nikon Coolpix P7000
17.02.2011
More
The so-called professional compact camera niche hasn’t seen much activity from Nikon lately. That changed at the end of last summer, when the company introduced the Coolpix P700, a truly remarkable compact camera.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2
15.11.2010
More
When digging deeper into the past of digital cameras, we should mention the fact that the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 – predecessor of currently reviewed G2 model – was in 2008 the first camera of the Micro 4/3 standard in the world. The design is basically the same, so let’s look at other features that come with this updated model.
Olympus Pen E-P2
07.10.2010
More
In one of the last reviews of WoL we introduced the latest camera of the Olympus PEN family, the
E-PL1
. No doubt, our attention should be also drawn to a second PEN, the E-P2, which comes in black or silver. This all-metal camera looks like it traveled here from the 1960s. If you didn't happen to see the large LCD display on the back, you would even know that this masterpiece of photographic apparatus was digital. The reason for this is very simple: PEN E-P2 follows in a long tradition of old, analogue Pen cameras, which were announced to the public for the first time 51 years ago.
Samsung EX1
06.09.2010
More
The market is currently overflowing with high quality compact digital cameras. The better the news when a new model is introduced, having the characteristics and features that can shuffle the stable positions of cameras in this product segment. If you think you’ll find one of the leading brands in photography labeled on the body of this camera, you are mistaken - this camera is manufactured by the Korean Samsung.
Olympus Pen E-PL1
02.08.2010
More
Despite being introduced onto the market only about two years ago, the development of the Micro 4/3 standard up to now has not left anyone questioning this viable concept, perfectly filling in the gap in the market of photography equipment. In our reviews, we have already introduced the first Pen mode from Olympus –
E-P1
; now, let us look at the newest Pen, the E-PL1.
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7
22.06.2010
More
How many times have you missed out on an opportunity to take a wonderful photograph just because you did not bring your camera along? You simply had too many things to carry and weren’t bothered to handle an additional piece. There are countless reasons that limit our photographic ambitions. These limitations are however very influential concerning the Week of Life members,
since if they were without a camera, the project just wouldn’t be the same. So why not try a compact camera that you can carry around at all times?
Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ10
03.05.2010
More
Viewfinder-less ultra zoom compact cameras are a very popular type nowadays. The range of the stabilized optics is usually high, but based on dimensions, they fall into the typical compact camera category. Moreover, the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ10 is very well equipped with all sorts of functions, including the above standard built-in GPS module.
Samsung NX10
07.04.2010
More
The introduction of the so-called professional compact cameras or the ‘non-SLRs’ if you want with the Micro Four Thirds standard (we’ve already introduced
Olympus Pen E-P1
a
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1
on the WoL site) opened a new field of camera development in digital photography. In the scope of image quality, these cameras reach the standard of SLRs, as well as being lighter and much more compact. No wonder that another company entered the market with a similar concept shortly after the others – this time it was Samsung.
Nikon D5000
18.03.2010
More
If Canon is number one on the SLR market, the two spot has been held firmly for some time by its long-time rival, Nikon. Said company also has a wide product range, starting with purely professional units, continuing to semi-pro SLRs and finally, the amateur models available to the general public. We will now introduce one product from the latter group – the Nikon D5000.
Canon PowerShot S90
03.03.2010
More
Compact cameras, stylish as they are, are generally conceived as exposure machine, not quite reaching the level of top-notch digital compacts. With a few exceptions – the Leica D-Lux 4, whose test you can find
here
on our website, surely deserves to belong in the category alongside the top camera models. And convincingly enough, so does the decent Canon PowerShot S90, the pretext of this review.
