Photographers
22.06.2011
More
A camera, cell phone, or a video camera is an essential tool for everyone who wishes to contribute to the Week of Life project. Most of us are photography enthusiasts who regularly meet other photographers during events, when visiting a foreign city, on the street or even at home. The era of digital photography has influenced not only the Week of Life project, but the field of photography in its
entirety, so seeing someone with a camera is not the most unique of occurrences nowadays. It was only a matter of time when the photo topic put together from photographs capturing others holding a camera one way or the other comes to life. In the selection, you will find a set of various photos portraying your fellow photographers in different moments and situations. Many were captured while desperately trying to find the right image, some were documented for their equipment, and others were caught discussing a topic no other than photography.
Metal plated companions
07.04.2011
More
Recently, our lives have become dependent on many inventions from the last few centuries. The combustion engine was certainly one of the most significant ones, especially for its use in cars and motorcycles. For many of us, these vehicles are the means of our everyday transport to work, school or any type of other activity. Some are satisfied with the older model, which gets us from point A to point B; others regard their transportation
vehicle as a family member, their pride and a way of life. Let us look at the selection of your metal plated companions, no matter if they're of older year of manufacture, the latest product of your favorite automobile company, a stylish sports car or a well-preserved veteran.
Feeling sick
16.02.2011
More
We’ve all been through it. Once in a while, we simply don’t feel too well. Permanent headaches, a cold and the only thing acceptable to drink is hot tea with honey. At this point of time, wondrous and colorful pills become our best friends and the only ones that understand our suffering. Being sick or injured is part of everyone’s life at one point or another and so we decided to find out your health
condition. It is safe to say that we have collected many photographs portraying all kinds of illnesses, as well as the already mentioned pills, medicines and energy stimulants. Join us for an excursion into the homes of the sick and stricken down by infectious germs.
Playing with WoL
17.01.2011
More
When Martin Rupert presented his portrayal of the letters WoL made from wrenches, a cup of coffee and a slider in his week, we immediately knew that others will try to come up with original ideas as well; and we were not mistaken. Your fantasies certainly have no boundaries and with every new addition, we were filled with joy, looking forward what you come up with next. In the end, we found
more than 50 photos with this theme and we show them to you here in all their beauty. You not only put together the letters of WoL, but you wrote them in various places, whenever you thought about the project during the day. And from what we see, you put a lot of time and effort into it. You can take a look at who did what and how much you played with it in today’s photo topic.
Pilsner Urquell
06.12.2010
More
Today’s photo topic is dedicated to the General partner of the Czech Week of Life Pilsner Urquell - the flagship of the Plzeňský prazdroj, a leading brewing company in Central Europe. We highly appreciate the support of all our partners, since the Week of Life project would never have been able to function without them. From your documented weeks we realized that you have a positive
relation towards Pilsner Urquell, which is not that much of a surprise after all, since brewing and the consumption of beer is an integral part of the Czech society and culture. That is why we are honored to have such a respectable brand as Pilsner Urquell is as the General partner of WoL CZ, namely due to its reputation in the brewing field, with its lager belonging among the best. Take a look at all the forms and ways through which Pilsner Urquell has influenced your lives.
Our animal companions
01.11.2010
More
It’s never a cliché to say that dogs are man’s best friends. Who else greets us in the morning whatever their mood is. This is something humans highly value and open their hearts to, no matter if it is a dog or any other being from the animal kingdom. They are ever grateful for endearment and a little bit of attention. There are some of us who couldn’t imagine life without their animal
friends, as well as ones who would never opt to own a pet under any circumstance. So, we were eager to see which group you as members of WoL belong to and decided to browse through your weeks. The frequency with which you document your pets has pleasantly surprised us, and we found ourselves in a tough spot trying to select only 50 out of so many wonderful pictures. We aimed for an easy photo topic this time and focused on your pets with all their spontaneity and sensuality, in order to try and put a smile on your face.
Intimacy
01.10.2010
More
We must admit that we were a little hesitant with this Photo topic, since it borders on our privacy. We are not puritans, however; we simply did not want for this section to end up as a selection of nude photos, completely irrelevant to the philosophy of the project. Nevertheless, your photographs have convinced us to implement this decision, and even though we may be standing on thin
ice, we think that it was totally worth it. Intimate moments are a part of everyone’s life. What could be more intriguing than the kiss of a couple in love, the revealed parts of a body of the one we love, documented only with the best intentions, or the exposed parts of our own body to the extent we have personally chosen? There is no shame in nudity or expressing emotions. So, please approach this topic as a celebration of everything that is naturally close to us and get to know yourselves in a different, intimate way.
Wedding Day
23.08.2010
More
A wedding day belongs among the greatest memories in the life of two individuals, who decide to take thein relationship a step further and enter into holy matrimony. Whether they live happily ever after or eventually become separated, nothing can change the fact that they lived through their own individual D-Day together and expressed their mutual understanding with
an ‘I do’. Various traditions are connected with wedding days and all the exciting memories are shared alike by the newlyweds and their wedding guests. Today’s photo topic offers the taste of such wedding days, selected from your documented sets, allowing for you to compare the different courses such an extraordinary day can take.
Shadowplay
12.07.2010
More
Who wouldn’t remember the times when we as little children passed the time before falling into the world of dreams by using the lamp’s light to create all sorts of shapes of animals and such on the wall, or at least relentlessly demand it from our parents. The game with lights and shadows has its immortal charm, fascinating us even as adults, which you have so convincingly
confirmed numerous times. In a matter of seconds, we become skinny and tall or on the contrary, the most adorable tiny midgets shaped on the side of the street, where only a passing look at the shadows cast by ourselves or people around us is just enough to get out of the everyday dose of worries and frowns. Join us on the journey to the world of silhouettes – a world that lures you in by its simplicity and anonymity, and compare yourselves in the light of shadows.
Emotions
14.06.2010
More
A human being’s entire life is accompanied by emotions. Distress is the first emotion a child expresses when it howls after being born and its first smile is something we strive to dokument in our family albums. We perceive emotions through a form of non-verbal communication. Without saying a word, another person can immediately understand how we feel or what we are going through
inside. The same applies to the WoL project, as it is important to catch weeping and laughter, as well as joy or disappointment, since feelings and emotions are such a regular part of our lives. While selecting relevant photographs, we realized that capturing sincere emotions is not an easy task. Many smiles were deliberate for the camera and finding real laughter, as well as genuine tears, was really difficult. While looking through the viewfinder at a person weeping, hardly anybody is strong enough to stand by and not feel the urge to comfort them in any way.
